Biografi “Terrific composer… He’s the real thing.” John Corigliano The music of composer and pianist Ola Gjeilo has been performed and recorded in more than 20 countries on all continents in venues such as New York’s Carnegie Hall, Alice Tully Hall and Scandinavia House, Miami’s Jackie Gleason Theatre, St. Paul’s Benson Great Hall, Stockholm’s Gustaf Vasa Church, and Oslo Concert House. Mr. Gjeilo maintains a distinguished concert career, performing his own music, solo or with his ensemble, the Ola Gjeilo Group. His first solo piano recording, Stone Rose, will be released in October, 2007 on the Grammy® nominated label 2L. He has been commissioned by several elite ensembles and musicians worldwide, including American star soprano Barbara Bonney (New England Songs, 2005), Voces Nordicae, Ensemble Mendelssohn and Chamber Orchestra of the South Bay. Born in Norway in 1978, Gjeilo studied at the Norwegian Academy of Music, the Royal College of Music in London, and completed his Master’s degree in composition at The Juilliard School in 2006. He is a recipient of the Gretchaninov Memorial Prize and was a winner of the 2005 Juilliard Composers’ Orchestral Work Competition. The winning piece, The Identity Triad, was performed by the Juilliard Orchestra in New York’s Alice Tully Hall, as well as by the East Texas Symphony Orchestra in 2007. In 2006 three of his art songs were awarded 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in the Diana Barnhart American Song Competition. Gjeilo signed an exclusive 5-year deal with Walton Music for his choral music in 2007. Hathon Real Estate has been his sponsor since 2001.
