Mariam Gviniashvili is an Oslo-based electroacoustic composer and laptop performer, originally from the Republic of Georgia. Her road to composition was leading through singing and piano studies from early age, years of piano performance in jazz as well as studies and work in the music production business. She composes acousmatic music, often for large speaker arrays. She has also created audiovisual media and interactive sound-art works.
Mariam often uses field recordings as compositional material, searching for subtle details in everyday sounds, the sounds of nature and deep space, or the voices of people, magnifying and transforming them into dense musical textures fluctuating between calm streams and ferocious eruptions.
While being studio manager at Tbilisi State Conservatoire, she has completed her Master studies in acoustic composition, 2 years of studio production studies at the Norwegian Academy of Music, and one year of electroacoustic music composition at Liszt Academy of Music with Andrea Szigetvári. From 2018, she moved back to Norway where she pursues a Master’s degree in Music Performance Technology at the Norwegian Academy of Music with Natasha Barrett.
